Mama Says I'm Different, I Just Think She's Crazy

I made a little music video for Jalle earworm of a single all by my lonesome. Sometimes it’s nice to use a low-budget project to free yourself from expectation and experiment a little.

I’ve always admired David Hockney’s “joiners” — photo collages made from shooting a single scene or subject from multiple perspectives, stitched together to form a single, warped image. I’d never seen the technique put to use with video, and had a new super 8 camera to test, so I made this little clip to see if it would be any good.

It turned out pretty well, and I was eager to flex this muscle on something longer than one-shot. When the Jalle track came around, I knew I’d found the right opportunity. So armed with an S-VHS camera, a single light and a pack of foil emergency blankets, I made the video for “Downers”. Here it is in all its glory…
